The Urban Bait Himalayan Salt Range comes under the beady eye of Angler’s Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He’s the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.
Ingredients: two of the most popular Urban Bait ranges now come in an alternative âsaltyâ format. The famous Nutcracker range is based on freshly ground tiger nuts, nut meals, milk proteins and cereals. And Red Spicy Fish is made from fishmeals, spices, milk proteins and cereals. And both are also now available cured or preserved using pink Himalayan salt.
My verdict: capitalising on the theory that carp need salt and are attracted to it, the lads at Urban Bait have released these ‘salty’ alternatives.
They’re not only coating the outside of a couple of their baits with it, which is very visible through the packaging, theyâre incorporating it into the base mix, too.
In recent seasons, carpers have been experimenting more and more with adding salt to their baits. The Urban team confirmed to me that salt naturally inhibits the growth of bacteria, which helps preserve the bait, and the bonus is that they know carp are drawn to it as well.
The boilies are available in 14 and 18 mm sizes, and theyâll catch from the off, report Urban Bait, but better results are likely to be possible after regular baiting.
Prices: £10.95 (1 kg). £37.50 (5 kg).
