The Middy Carp Blues Commercials Pole Floats come under the beady eye of Angler’s Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He’s the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.
Description: pole floats for commercial fisheries, designed by match ace Rob Wootton.
Specifications: Series 1, 2, 3 and 4 designs; available in 4×10, 4×12, 4×14 and 4×16 sizes; AA grade balsa bodies; nitinol or carbon stems; 1.5 or 2 mm hollow tips.
My verdict: for that little bit of finesse when targeting carp or silver fish, especially when water temperatures start to drop, you might want to opt for Series 1 floats, which have nitinol stems and 1.5 mm hollow tips.
The Series 2 floats have been fitted with 2 mm hollow tips, for presenting slightly bigger baits and/or for better visibility when fishing further out.
The Series 3 floats have carbon stems and 1.5 mm hollow tips, which allow them to settle in the water slowly, making them an ideal choice for fish that can be coaxed into taking a bait as it falls through the water.
If you start catching lots of fish before the float has settled, or you want to step up to a bigger bait, swap over to one of the Series 4 floats, which have carbon stems and 2 mm hollow tips, without altering your shotting pattern.
I like the way that Rob Wootton has simplified this range. Theyâre based around the original Carp Grey floats that he designed.
Price: £2.25 each.
