Review: Carp Spirit Blax Series Rods

The Carp Spirit Blax Series Rods come under the beady eye of Angler’s Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He’s the No.1 product inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: extensive range of specimen carp rods.

Specifications: two-piece rods available in 10 ft (3 lb test curve), 12 ft (2.75 lb, 3 lb and 3.5 lb t.c.) and 13 ft (3 lb and 3.5 lb t.c); 12 and 13 ft (3 lb t.c.) three-piece options; slim and light 30-ton carbon blank; matt finish; Sea-Guide BTLSG guides; 18 mm DPS reel seat; abbreviated handle.

My verdict: if you’re in the market for a set of carp rods for around £50, my advice is to check these models out before you make your choice.

Carp Spirit’s brief was to produce a range of rods that would be ‘best in class’, and which would be around for a long time. “Pick one up and they will sell themselves,” is the feedback that I’ve been getting.

Being part of the Rapala group, Carp Spirit is able to buy “fantastic carbons at fantastic prices,” passing the saving onto customers.

Whether you are working up the carping ladder, want a second set of rods for fishing French waters, some 13-footers for tackling big waters or rivers, something more powerful than you are already using, or a three-piece rod for stowing away in a small car, this range has it covered.

They come with a semi-fast action, a quality blank and double leg SiC guides, and look like they’ll handle several seasons of use.

If you’re buying a set of two, three or more, you should be able to get a better deal on the individual prices stated here.

There are also dedicated Spod and Marker rods in the range, that I’ll be featuring in a future issue.

There’s a whole range of other competitively priced Blax gear to discover, including bivvies, chairs, landing nets and a full range of metalware. It’s decent looking kit with very reasonable price tags.

Prices: £39.99-£59.99.
